Had a great time at @openhousetallinn yesterday. It was so cool to finally see inside the old Luther Factory! This was one of the only factories in Tallinn I hadn't been into. Some very well-preserved abandoned remains inside there and a really informative tour. The Olympic flame in Tallinn (1980); an iconic image. This Olympic cauldron is still there in Pirita today. In actual fact, modern Tallinn is covered in remnants from the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Check out my new blog post on Hidden Tallinn to discover more! Ülemiste City Tour! (Link in bio) Pirita highway under construction in the late 1970s in preparation for the Moscow Olympic games. This highway would link the city centre with the specially built complex in Pirita, where the sailing events would be held. This is one of many construction projects from this period that changed the face of modern Tallinn. Noblessner Shipyard (2011). When I took this picture Kalaranna road didn't exist yet and Noblessner was still a functioning shipyard. I had to glance through the barbed wire fence to get these shots. Wish I could have explored the factory more in these days! Tallinn's Central Market (Keskturg): a little slice of Soviet life still surviving in modern Tallinn. Founded in 1947, this market was (and continues to be) the main shopping spot for many locals. From fruit and veg to clothes, antiques, watches, locksmiths and tobacco, Keskturg has a huge variety of products and has served the citizens of Tallinn well in its time. Amazing abandoned house on Aegna. I must say, I don't know the history of this building but it's one of the coolest abandoned places I've found in recent years! A special bonus was the Lenin newspaper in the bedroom! An abandoned holiday home (Aegna) 🏖🌞🏚 Põhjala Factory, Kopli (spring 2019 🌱).
