RMK is an organisation responsible for the upkeep and general preservation of Estonian state-owned forests. With over 2.2 million hectares of forest covering the land (40% of which is owned by the state) this is no small task.
Through their work, the RMK ” builds hiking trails, maintains accommodation facilities, marks scenic recreational areas, and prepares camping sites and campfire places”. These RMK parks are liberally scattered around Estonia , offering fantastic opportunities to to hike, cycle and camp in the heart of the lush Estonian forest.
Keila-Joa Pargi Loodusrada – 30km West of Tallinn (about two hours by bike if you’re fast) – is one such site. This charming nature trail is characterised by vivid forest scenery and just so happens to host Estonia’s longest waterfall. Two for the price of one, you might say.
